WE ARE
RoboJam is a unit of the Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York. (JCOBA-NY) . We founded the Caribbean's first internationally-recognized secondary school robotics program at JC in 2009. In March 2019, partnered by JC, we brought the premier global STEM/robotics franchise to Jamaica. FIRST Tech Challenge Jamaica is operated by the Jamaica College Foundation via our arrangement with FIRST.
.
The long term goal of JCOBA-NY is to assist in upgrading the Jamaican workforce via STEM education in support of the government's Vision 2030 Development plan - Jamaica's roadmap to developed nation status. In 2017 the Association struck a partnership with the Ministry of Education to help upgrade 30,000 students by 2030 - based on our TEAM Works project.
TEAM Works™ will build competence in robotics and other STEM disciplines in Jamaican schools. Its programs are designed for students 6 - 18 years. Projects at the secondary school level are currently prioritized.
TEAM Works™ features FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC Jamaica) robotics competition as its Phase 2 expansion initiative.
As licensee of FIRST, the annual competition forms the Jamaica Robotics Championship. The event is a national qualifier for the annual World Robotics Championship in the USA.
These initiatives build on robotics programs developed at Jamaica College and other schools the Association has assisted since 2009. The goal is now to extend the reach and benefits of robotics and other advanced STEM applications countrywide.
We deliver 21st Century skills to students which spurs expertise in technology and a culture of science appreciation in Jamaica.
We spark innovation.
